Future Projects
I'll probably be working on some or all of these over the next few months:
- A warning light when the side-stand is down. This could also be wired as a ignition cutoff to prevent the bike being started with the side-stand down.
- A modified windshield, probably via an add-on spoiler, to try to deflect the wind a little higher without inducing turbulence.
- Dash warning lights which you can actually see for things like FI problems and high beams
- A second brake light with a brake light modulator.
- A speedometer drive corrector to readout the correct speed. Looks like the wheel sensor produces a series of pulses as the wheel rotates. I'd read these pulses in to a PIC (essentially a one chip microcomputer), calculate their frequency and generate a similar stream of pulses out at the corrected frequency.
- An interface and readout of the diagnostic port on the FI system. There are a number of ECU hacking groups on the web and there's a fair amount of information about the Delphi MT05 engine control system that the RX3 uses. The interface hardware shouldn't be difficult but the software may be a problem. Of course you can buy one from Delphi, but that's cheating!
- Grip heaters for winter.
- Hand guards.
- Seat modifications. I have made modified seats in the past which worked quite well.
- Horn upgrade, possibly with two stage system (short press = 1 horn, longer press = 2 horns)
What would be interesting to see but I won't be working on myself are:
- The availability of higher friction brake pads
- The availability of alternate front and/or rear sprockets
- A higher power headlight upgrade, maybe one designed and approved for LEDs
